Love Congresbury was held from Junewith villagers enjoying the scorching temperatures and three days of fun, games and community spirit. The event began on the Friday with Congresbury Cricket Club hosting a fast-paced and entertaining unders game — where villagers enjoyed the big-hitting batsmen and a barbecue. The event gathered pace on Saturday morning with acts of random kindness. Suggestion boxes were installed around the village as residents asked volunteers to do jobs like gardening and tidying.
Villagers turned out in s for the party. The acts of kindness always touch us.
We set up on the Saturday and we always get volunteers, with families always helping. Lots of delicious treats were served up. A village picnic, called The Great Get Together, was held at the Millennium Green on the Saturday afternoon to celebrate the life of former MP Jo Cox who was murdered last year — and the theme of togetherness and community spirit was present throughout the weekend.
Guests enjoyed live music. It brought two religions together which, with everything going on at the moment, was a highlight. Mrs Polledri thanked everyone who helped with the event, particularly fellow organisers Amy Short and Caz Carter. This newspaper has been a central part of community life for many years.
