The house is huge. There were 10 of us, the kitchen could easily accommodate family meals and all of the other rooms were very large. You have everything you need in the kitchen, it is very well supplied with cooking utensils. The garden is safe to let children and dogs loose and as long as the main gates are closed. The farmhouse is at the end of a stony farm road, so watch out for bumps - I wouldnA? There is 4G, and you can actually get WiFi but it is irregular - look on the ceiling of a couple of the bedrooms and you can see a WiFi receiver.
When the blue light is on you can connect to Cornwall Broadband- you can get 4G free for the day or you can pay for more. But like i say, we were already there for 3 days before the blue light came on so thatA? One warning - it is an old farmhouse, so the floors are not level, especially upstairs.
In one of the bedrooms the foot of the bed is higher than the head. But it is only that extreme in one room, the rest are fairly level enough! The location, for us, was great. Away from the busy tourist spots, but still really close to lots of beautiful places. Be warned that there are lots of small, single track farm ro, as you would probably expect in that area. Google maps will insist on taking you down them, but after a few experiences we decided to drive straight to the A39 and let google maps work it out from there.
Lo of beautiful places to visit really nearby and I would definitely recommend St Nectans Glen. For food, we did shops at SainsburyA? Near MorrisonA? We had a great holiday at the farmhouse and in the local area, would definitely recommend. From the moment you arrive driving up the very bumpy drive you realise your going back in time.
The house was absolutely spotless and although is very old everything adorable No WiFi for a Greeted by the chickens every morning and we were so lucky with the weather, close to all amazing places Tintagel, Bude and only a short drive to even more spectacular places.
A quirky find that made great memories x. We arrived quite late, after dark, due to a nearly miles trip. The satnav recognised the road, which was hardly a road at all, and this was part of the charm Straight away we were in, and exploring Boscastle sexy 50 plus dates rooms we were going to have. The farmhouse is a lovely big rambling space, with character to match. We then unpacked, and proceeded to get ourselves comfortable, and settle down for something to eat. Everyone retired relatively early - it had been a very long journey, and a very long day.
When we awoke, we had a chance to peruse the surroundings. A lovely setting, with a lovely garden and some very good walks in the area. We had been to Cornwall many times before, but generally to the far west. This was our first time on the north coast, and it did not disappoint. The farmhouse was a base to be away from it all, and yet be in a good position to explore the whole area Getting back from a day out, it felt like a home from home. Boscastle sexy 50 plus dates enjoyed Cornwall, we enjoyed the farmhouse, and we enjoyed the location. All in all, a very enjoyable stay, and a place we missed almost immediately upon returning home.
Lovely authentic farmhouse. Very peaceful. Would recommend highly. Amazingly clean. Felt very safe here. We had a wonderful stay at Helsett Farmhouse. A true escape from the big smoke of Bristol. The house was clean and spacious with a wonderful big kitchen. The children took over the living room as their play room and we cooked feasts in the kitchen or on the bbq outside. The paved area outside was a wonderful chalk painting gallery by the end of our stay. The only thing missing we thought was a verandah on the sunny evening side so you could be outside even in the rain but we were so lucky with the weather and explored nearby Trebarwith sands, Crackington Beach wonderful pub: first pint of ale outside since lockdown!
Widemouth beach, Tintagel Castle and St Nectans glen. Lovely walks down into the wood from the house and a huge trampoline up on the hill which the kids adored. Would definitely recommend and perhaps might come again! Thank you so much to our hosts!
Had a really nice weekend away with the whole family! A great house for hide and seek with the kids, wonderful garden February weather meant we couldnt go out to play but in the summer we would've been outside every daygreat kitchen, comfy mattresses and surprisingly warmer than we expected! Another fantastic get-away weekend with friends.
Wet and windy coastal walks complemented by warm cottage, log fires, kitchen suppers from the Aga. We love the character of the house, spacious, warm, comfortable. Thank you Helsett, see you next year! The house is large, well appointed and very family orientated. It has lots of character, lovely surroundings, easy parking and access and is well equipped. The owners are sensitive to need and quick to respond when required.
If you want quiet and peaceful position in a very special valley close to the coast and this is for you. Loved my stay here. Is miles away from anything so if you are looking at getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life this place is perfect. The house is huge so plenty of room if you are in a group, beds and showers great. Thought it might be cold as it is so big but it was always warm. The only downside for some may be no wifi but was not an issue for me for a week. We had a lovely time away. Such a peaceful location and a stunning grand property to stay in.
An excellent farmhouse for large families to explore North Cornwall.
The house was well equipped, spacious kitchen with Aga, 5 large bedrooms - and very clean. The owners were friendly and helpful.
Lovely house, more space than you could ever need. Always warm with the range on and a great focal point. Huge garden which the kids and dogs loved. Don't take a low sports car though as the access is a farm track, fine for all other vehicles though. Sarah and Robin are old family friends and I've been coming to Helsett all my life so I am slightly biased but for me it's the perfect place to be. Splendidly isolated in a beautiful setting. The garden is stunning, filled with foxgloves and ferns, and the house is huge, quirky and full of charm and everyone enjoyed learning to cook on the Aga.
Highly recommended. Spacious farmhouse set in well looked after gardens easily accommodated our party of ten for the weekend. This is a home ready to be enjoyed, and therefore the odd lazy day just sitting around reading or exploring the house and grounds is entirely warranted. The owners have also ensured the character of the farmhouse is respectfully intact and therefore, and this together with the overall package made this a good choice for us.
An excellent venue for my 70th Birthday weekend comprising eight adults and four small children under 9 yrs of age. Plenty of room both in the house and the large gardens surrounded by fields.
Adults could relax completely and children were in their element safely playing around the house and gardens. Best room in the house for us was the kitchen with the lovely old AGA. So much room, we spent most of the time there including my celebratory meal. Track leading to house is a little rough but is worth it for the wonderful feeling of getting away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Owners are very friendly and live nearby in another part of the farm and we were made to feel very much at home as soon as we arrived.
We were all reluctant to leave and everyone talked about how we could do it again. Lots of space, indoors and out. Quirky and interesting old farmhouse, with gothic touches! Failed to make enough use of the sizeable sitting room due to the attractions of the kitchen with its lovely warm Aga. We all loved our stay at Helsett. The farmhouse itself is stunning but some aspects need work Also so little details like stagnant dirty water collecting under leaking sin, lots of the owners persnal belonging in kitchen cupboards etc.
Some items quite dangerous for little children. My toddler come running up to me with an old battery in her mouth that she had taken from the kitchen cupboard! I think a deep clear out in needed in order the the kitchen and utility room to be up to standard and safe for families with young children. Other than that it was wonderful! Lovely owners, fresh clean bedding and towels, really comfy beds! A lovely stay on the whole.
A wonderful house and gardens, full of charm and a great place to stay for large gatherings.
The hosts are lovely people. My husband and I booked Helsett Farm for a quiet anniversary getaway after seeing it on the Cornwall Cottages website. The description, pictures and reviews promised for it to be the right choice for us and we were not disappointed. In fact, everything exceeded our expectations.
The tranquillity of the location, the charm and space of the farmhouse meant that we found ourselves choosing to spend time 'at home' rather than drive about Cornwall sightseeing. That said, we did venture out and found that Helsett is a good base for accessing both countryside and 'civilisation' alike.
There are so many features of the property and grounds that made us call the other over to look, it felt like a home to holiday in, rather than a holiday home. Wildlife in abundance, each window seemed to broadcast a different nature programme, especially Boscastle sexy 50 plus dates large 'widescreen' kitchen window. In the kitchen, the large AGA was a delight to bake and cook with. There are all the kitchen items you could need and more besides. It is a substantial room and probably where we spent the majority of our time. My husband commented many times how great the acoustics are in the kitchen and enjoyed being able to sing and play his acoustic guitar and accordion without disturbing neighbours, or me in the living room!
Helsett does lend itself to artist endeavours, whether a music, photography or art. There is a stillness that allows the mind to relax and create. It would be easy to write at length about all the features of Helsett, but I would not be able to capture the feeling of the place and it could be a 'spoiler' for you should you and I recommend that you do book a stay.
Whether it's two or ten of you, Helsett is a great choice!
There is room in abundance but it still feels cosy. There is a substantial choice of books to read, a modern flatscreen TV some pictures we saw before booking had an older style one and FreeSAT. The current internet connection does drop occasionally but was still perfectly adequate for the amount we wanted to use it route planning, websites for walks, Googling local attractions etc. There is a good 4G al EE anyway, so we used that when we needed to, which wasn't often as we were enjoying being away from all that type of thing The owners were very helpful and were easily contactable throughout our stay.
It was great to learn about some of the history of the farm and we were made to feel very welcome.Boscastle sexy 50 plus dates
